Google chrome will block ads that drain your resources

Google announced that its Chrome browser will start placing limits on what display ads to determine the threshold limits for the unloading, once an ad reaches the limit of resources it can use of network data and CPU.

Google says it will block ads that consume more than 4MB of network data, 15 seconds of CPU usage in any 30 second period, or 60 seconds of total CPU usage.

The search giant notes that although “only 0.3% of ads exceed this threshold today, they account for 27% of network data used by ads and 28% of all ad CPU usage.

Example Ad removed

Users will see a message such as “Ad removed” in place of the ad, as shown in the example.

Google plans to experiment with the feature over the next several months and to introduce it near the end of August.

Now’s the time to start looking at your ad builds to be ready for the change.
